- 1Look at your outfit. What colors are you wearing? Neutrals? Pinks? Black and green? If you are wearing neutral, or darker clothes with less color, you may want to accessorize with something colorful. What styles of clothing are you wearing? Is it girly? Tailored? Elegant? What your outfit looks like is important in choosing the right accessories. Clothes are an important part of accessorizing, so it's best to make them as tasteful and stylish as possible. Jeans should flatter your legs and backside. Skirts would look best if they were as fun and colorful as your shirts, but black or white work.
- 2Choose your accessories. Choose colors and themes that go well with your outfit.
- 3Jewelry is the most basic accessory. If you're wearing neutral, plain colors, you can do almost any color of jewelry. Choose a body part to focus on and stick with it. If you pick earrings, leave your neck bare (except shimmer powder if you are so inclined) ; if you chose your neck, feel free to load it with necklaces dainty and clunky alike, but wear the tiniest, most understated earrings possible like tiny rhinestone studs or pearls. For hands, don't do bracelets and rings at the same time. Don't go overboard. However you can wear a few rings with each other for an interesting look.
- 4Head accessories would be hats, headbands and hair ornaments. If you wear a hat it needs to go with your outfit! A straw hat ornamented with silk flowers would be cute with that gingham sundress, but it would look horrible paired with a glitzy red prom dress.Headbands are very versatile as they can be worn for decoration, to keep your hair back, or both. If it's for an evening outfit try a vaguely tiara-like one covered in rhinestones. These are very popular for formal occasions today. A clip or barrette in your hair would be cute, but don't wear a bunch. You could also take a big flower and put it behind your ear, but make sure it goes well with your outfit. Make sure you wash any often-used hairaccessories at least every other day, especially if you have dandruff. Make sure to use hair accessories accordingly: if you wear a hat, and you will know you will have to take it off, pack a brush so you can avoid hat hair.
- 5Belts Whether they be yellow or blue or purple and orange striped, belts are acute way of accessorizing yourself while keeping your pants up. Be very practical because they can help keep your trousers up. Stores carry many types of belts, thick and thin, all colors and materials. A belt would be nice when you're wearing pants if your shirt is short enough to be visible or it is tucked in. Photos of pregnant celebrities show a maxi dress with a wide belt between the bulge and the bust which is a great fashion idea - if you want people to notice that you're pregnant.
- 6Scarves are great for all year round. If it's winter or fall choose a nice thick one but if it's summer or spring choose a thin one. If you would like to wear multiple scarves, choose long thin ones because they would look better together than chunky ones.
- 7Handbags are nifty things to hold your things. Big totes in metallic copper, silver and gold colors are very "in", as are patchwork and quilted bags. Only bring one along if you need it, though, because these are more transportation items than fashion accessories. Or not, depending on your personal taste.
- 8Sunglasses are pretty cool and are very helpful in protecting your eyes, not to mention they can make driving a car safer when it's bright out. You might not want to wear all mentioned above! You want people to notice you, not all the junk you're lugging around on yourself! Go for the chic look, not the eek look!
- 9Shoes! You should have at least 1 pair of shoes for each season. For Winter: Boots, Spring: Pumps, Summer: Sandals or flip-flops (there IS a difference), and in fall: low-top tennis shoes or leather boots. Converse are great year round shoes! Don't forget to have a few pairs of shoes for special occasion. Some brands can be very costly, but if you'd wear them often, they're worth it!
- 10Denim looks great with sweaters!
- 11Compliment patterns with solids. If you're wearing patterned clothes, then choose solid colors in accessories, and vice versa.
- 12Face it, if everything matched life would be very boring. If you were wearing a white tank top and dove grey trousers and really wanted to wear the white belt with silver pinstripes, you could wear the belt but choose the blue and purple bracelets instead of the silver ones. If you're wearing a black and white flowered top, then you could pop in an electric blue medium sized beaded necklace and some cute blue earrings (hoops work well). If you're wearing something to the effect of a pink and green layered shirt, you could add some yellow, or black, or even purple.
- 13Remember that your #1 accessory should be your wonderful personality. You want people to like you, not your clothes. Shine on!
- 14Now you enjoy your outing!
