Step
- 1Look for any scrap wood you have around your house. If you don't have any you can buy some at a local home improvement center. While you're there, buy solid woods such as oak or maple, not pine, because it is a very soft wood.
- 2Look for both plywood and 2x4 planks. Both of these are lightweight so it will be easier to tow on a bike.
- 3Make sure you have plenty of wood screws. Depending on how sturdy you plan on making it, get 150 - 200 screws.
- 4To begin constructing your frame cut 2 planks to around 3-4 ft depending on your preference, and 2 planks around 2ft wide. Securely screw together with an electric drill. An electric drill will save you a lot of time.
- 5Support you frame with cross bracing that fits snugly inside your frame. This will add additional strength to your trailer.
- 6Make the axle. A wheelbarrow axle will work or you can make your own.
- 7Space the axle a few inches out from your frame so the wheels have enough room to move.
- 8Attach the wheels. There are a few ways you can attach the wheels, you can use a threaded axle of drill into you axle with a small metal drill bit. Attach pins to both sides of the wheel on the outside of it and also the inside near the frame. Make sure the tire has no friction between the pins and the frame.
- 9Make the hitch! Drill a hole into the front side of the frame on the opposite sides of the wheels. Screw a large eye screw into the hole this is what the tow rope or hitch will attach to.
- 10For options, you can add sides to your trailer securely along the sides next to the plywood floor.
- 11Tie a rope around your bike and have fun!
